What is a Read-a-thon?
The goal of the Read-a-thon is to encourage our students to develop a lifelong love of reading while also raising money to support initiatives in our school. Plus, there will be fun prizes, school-wide theme days, and most of all...amazing reading to be had by ALL!
The Read-a-thon is one of our biggest PTA fundraisers. The money raised will go toward enhancements for our school and other PTA-sponsored activities, such as author visits, field trips, new student socials, 5th grade graduation activities, teacher classroom funds and more.
Please help us reach our goal of $10,000!
Fun & prizes!
Check out the daily reading log for fun suggested daily reading challenges! There will be prizes for the students who raise the most in each grade and for the students who read the most minutes per grade.
Important Dates!
March 3rd: Readathon Starts! First day to read, log minutes, and fundraise.
March 14th: Last day to read and log minutes.
March 17th: Last day to fundraise and turn in your reading logs by the end of the day.
Be sure to check your emails over the next few weeks for more fun reading related events!
How many minutes are students challenged to read?
Suggested daily student goals are listed by grade on the reading log. But you and your child should discuss what is an appropriate and challenging daily goal for your child. And any and all minutes count! Books, magazines, reading aloud and silent reading...the Read-a-thon is focused on the amount of time a student is engaged in reading.
How do we keep track of the reading minutes?
Each day of the Read-a-thon (March 3rd - 14th) students should read. Students should record their minutes in the daily reading log. The reading log will be posted in each student’s google classroom and will be turned in digitally at the end (due by Monday, March 17th). If your student prefers a paper copy instead, please email readathon@ptawebster.org. (Kindergarten students will get paper copies from their teacher.)
Fundraising!
Students can ask family, friends, and neighbors to sponsor them for their Read-a-thon. Flat pledge amounts are preferable to per-minute donations.
Here’s how to register for sponsors:
Step 1: Go to Givebacks and register your student(s). If you don’t yet have an account on Givebacks, you (the parent) will need to create one first. It is free to register for Givebacks and free to participate in the Read-a-thon.
Step 2: You will receive your registration confirmation email which contains the specific link to your child's fundraising page. Share your fundraising page link with family and friends.
You can also ask friends and family to TEXT TO GIVE! Text 'websterpta' to 919.626.3277 to get a link to donate.
THANK YOU for participating and please don’t hesitate to contact the Read-a-thon Committee (readathon@ptawebster.org) if you have any questions!
