Be a PTA Class Representative
The primary goal of the PTA class representative is to make every family at Daniel Webster Magnet School feel connected to our community. The role of the PTA class representative is to support and build community within the classroom as well as to serve as a communication liaison between the classroom families, the classroom teacher(s), and the Parent and Teachers Association (PTA). Serving as a PTA class representative is an excellent opportunity to connect to your child’s class and to be involved in both the classroom and school community. The only eligibility requirement for PTA Class Representative is to be a paid member of the PTA ($10 per year).
PTA class representatives are integral to our school, and your time and effort are greatly appreciated by the children, teachers and other parents. Your involvement helps make our school community strong. PTA class representatives will be invited to attend an orientation meeting at the beginning of the school year where you will receive an overview of the class representatives role.
Please contact Webster PTA Recording Secretary Hannah Emmerich at ptaclassreps@ptawebster.org to express your interest in being a PTA class representative.
The PTA class representatives serve as liaisons between the classroom teachers and the parents. Responsibilities will include:
Internal Class Directory: The purpose of the internal class directory, which usually includes email and/or phone contact information for all class families (teachers, parents and students), is to facilitate communications between the teacher and/or PTA and class families. This internal directory is separate from the school’s records. All class families should provide some form of contact information for the internal directory. If you have a non-English speaking family, let our PTA class representative know, as translation services are available. Though parents will have already provided their email address to the school and school district during the registration process, they still need to expressly release that information to you for class parent communications. Please let parents know that, if they choose not to provide an email address, they may not receive important classroom information.
PTA Meetings: PTA class representatives should attend the PTA general meetings to keep informed on school happenings so that they can relay such information to class families. PTA class representatives will also encourage parents to become annual, paid members of the PTA.
PTA Class Parent Meetings: PTA class representatives should attend class parent meetings. The purpose of these meetings is to provide guidelines for the PTA class parent role, to share ideas and offer feedback.
Support school-wide PTA events: These include Read-A-Thons, Holiday Sales, Book Fairs, or other events sponsored by the PTA by volunteering or finding volunteers from your class and/or communicating to the parents in your class.
Teacher gifts: Assist with coordination of teacher’s gift(s) from the class as appropriate.
Be the glue that brings the school together: Forward, in a prompt manner, emailed information from teachers, the school, and the PTA as appropriate. Facilitate informal or formal feedback requests/polls/surveys on behalf of the PTA or administration.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The role of PTA class representative does not extend to issues relating to teaching or issues with individual students, but rather the whole class and enriching/social events for them all. Parents should talk to teachers individually regarding their own children.
